Parking Deck Passes Available for KSU Students

Kent Central Gateway has been a newer addition to Kent State University since July 2013. Gateway has a large parking deck that has increased the number of available public parking spaces in the downtown Kent area. TV2’s Pamela Marotta tells how the parking deck is now selling passes to KSU students and how it is helping out the campuses parking system.

If you walk through the Kent State Esplanade it will take you to Kent Central Gateway’s parking deck. This parking deck has five levels with 365 parking spaces. There are many people that park in the parking deck. However, the deck is not being used to its full capacity throughout the day. KSU and PARTA have agreed to set ____ spaces aside for students that would be interested in purchasing a pass to park in the deck.

The Gateway parking deck passes are priced to compete with Kent State University’s on-campus parking passes. However, this is helping with freeing up more parking spaces on campus now that the deck is selling passes to students as well. Students at KSU such as fashion or journalism majors will have a convenient and fast walk to class if purchasing a parking deck pass.

The parking deck passes are now available on sale for Summer and Fall 2014 semesters. The parking deck pass is $120.00 for a semester, which is valid daily between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

If one-hundred people end up buying a permit for their parking deck it may just mean that one-hundred other people who may be parking further away on our campus can now park closer.

PARTA’s General Manager Claudia Amrhein says that there are more positive advantages to parking in the Gateway parking deck rather than on-campus. The parking deck is close to campus with only a few minutes walk. Students will no longer need to struggle daily to find a parking space on campus, the parking deck will always have a reserved space for your parking pass. Another positive fact about parking in the deck is that your car is always covered from snow and rain.
