Women’s Center Food Pantry Helps Community

During these tough economic times, some college students don’t have enough money to put groceries on the table. This is where the Women’s Center in Kent comes in.

The Center provides a pantry that offers food and toiletries free of charge on an emergency basis for faculty, staff and students.

The primary community served is women from the KSU community, and most are students here at the University. Other members of the community will not be turned away if help is needed though.

Many clients also visit the pantry on a referral and if there are many repeat visits, the Center then makes its own referrals for more long-term support.

Because the Women’s Center is smaller, they are only capable of “filling the gaps,” but they do their best to help meet everyone’s needs.

The center relies on getting the food for the pantry by donations from many groups and organizations around campus and from other members of the community.

You can make an appointment or just drop in the Women’s Center Monday through Friday 8am-5pm if you are in need of the food pantry’s assistance.

I’m Nicole Jelinek for broadcast beat reporting.
