Wildcat stadium was recently renovated and everything athletics was revamped. From a new weight room, softball field, baseball field, scoreboard with graphics and replay, bleachers, press box, restrooms, concession areas, all weather track, soccer goals and nets, shot put cage, batting cages inside and out, long jump, high jump, pole vault, parking lot to hold the large crowds drawn in, alumni pavilion, entrance with archway and ticket options like the vip bleacher seats. In addition to all that their is the new Wildcat Sport and Fitness that includes new field house, weight room, upper track, cardio area, 2 locker rooms for both men and women, basketball flooring, offices for athletic director and athletic trainers all in a 3 year project. The total project in total cost around 3.5 Million dollars and is all state of the art. In the past 5 years Mayfield High School has got a new Head Football Coach, Athletic Trainer, and Athletic Director so you could say its out with the old and in with the new. Head Football Coach Ross Bandera said “either track, soccer, football even other sports that don’t involve playing on the field or using the track, practice on it so the majority of our kids are using the park in some sort of way… we play on the same field we practice on and it never gets muddy and it never get to the point where if its raining we cant practice on it, so just being able to have that element of a game every single day and the lines on the field really help all the teams prepare for the games” credited Bandera. Field usage is no longer a problem with the worry of tearing up the fresh grass and mudding up the field. Athletic Director Keith Leffler commented “in the spring same thing track CYO track, middle school track, travel soccer they will all use that facility, so now there is always a place where teams can practice. So the challenge is just coordinating the demand cause certainly now because its turf and you have a new all weather track, the demand for the facility is greater….AAU Track wants to use this facility for their big regional meet in the summer, the News Herald is going to run a all-star football game out of our facility, so big events like that that aren’t necessarily Mayfield High School sports events are now going to be hosted here.” With the large demand for the facility, their is nothing but money to be made for the community and students attending the school. Equipment for the students has never been such a luxury and student athletes are enjoying every minute of it. Having a top notch athletic program and education system can do a lot for a school and these can help a student grow as a person to make them appreciate nice things. Wildcat Stadium is currently one of the top athletic facilities in the North East Ohio District and will continue to be for years to come.
