Adios to Allerton

I’m here at the Allerton Apartment Complex which has served as a home for students and students with families for over fifty years and currently houses over three hundred residents. However, design and bid documents are being prepared for the demolition of remaining apartments A, B, C, and D. Project Manager Michael Wasowski as well as corresponding studies believe that the green space may be used for more athletic fields, located at the sports complex nearby. I spoke with Doris Gharky whose worked here as a secretary for twenty six years. She said “I get calls all the time from people who still want to move in.” It’s sad because it seems like people still need to live here. But the university has been trying to tear this down for a few years now, and now they will.” The project is set to get underway late this spring and, as for residents, the last available lease ends late this summer.
For broadcast beat reporting, I’m Chip Reid.
